'I add my voice to the many others calling for the immediate release of all detainees, as well as the Greenpeace International ship Arctic Sunrise.' Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu
Twelve Nobel Prize laureates, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, joined together to write a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, asking the president to do all he can to ensure the charges against the Greenpeace activist are dropped.
In their letter, the award winners urge President Putin “to do all you can to ensure that the excessive charges of piracy against the 28 Greenpeace activists, freelance photographer and freelance videographer are dropped, and that any charges brought are consistent with international and Russian law.”
The laureates also wrote about the importance of protecting the High North against oil exploration and climate change.
